I have lived in the Redding area for the past 30 years. In 1980, I took in my first Alzheimer's resident. This wonderful lady touched my heart. I saw a need and had a desire to care for the elderly. God opened the door for me.

Over the next few years, I took in a few more ladies, one at a time. At this time I hired some very special girls to help me. In 1984 I opened up my first Alzheimer's facility. Eight years later, in 1992, I opened up my second home. I believe that our clients should be pampered and treated with the same dignity and respect that I would want my own parents and grandparents to be treated with.

Lakewood Christian Homecare has become an expression of spiritual inspiration for me. Faith has kept me going and faith has made it possible to expand this beautiful 30 bed facility designed to care for the needs of Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson and stroke patients.


Our facility is headed by my eldest son, Michael Furniss, who is the administrator. Mike has also been a registered nurse since 1985. He has worked 13 years as a charge nurse in emergency departments, as a flight nurse on the helicopter, and as a mobile intensive care nurse on the ambulance in the Redding area for the past eleven years. His excellent nursing skills are an additional asset to our facility.
